My Friend Rabbit

My Friend Rabbit is an animal story in which a mouse and a rabbit are best friends. Although Rabbit is well intentioned, “whatever he does, wherever he goes, trouble follows;” nonetheless, mouse remains his friend and helps him work through the difficulties. Rohmann’s use of a limited color palette and heavily outlined cartoon style results in an air of simplicity that reflects a child’s view of the world and the nature of friendship. At the secondary level, My Friend Rabbit, could serve as an introduction to the special friendship between George and Lenny that is at the heart of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.
